Class Distribution

I looked through the forums and couldn't really find anything that answered my questions. I also searched the web for any info and the most relevant information was from mid 2015. If these questions are answered somewhere else in the forums I would appreciate a link to them. Thanks in advance.

What is the class breakdown per Alliance and Horde?

What role/class is most in demand for Raiding and PvP?

Which faction is the better choice for Raiding and/or PvP?

Classes

PvE
As many wise men said before me,you can pick any class you want and you will have success with it,no matter how many other players share the same role as you do.
However,classes like warlock,mage,rogue,priest and all the other healers are welcome in any raid,while plate-wearing classes tend to find spots a bit harder,unless they are tank spec.

PvP
Unlike PvE,PvP has no limits or boundaries when it comes to forming 2s,3s or premades,but a good healer will always be welcomed.

Factions

Alliance
Right now,the Alliance is the PvP faction that dominates the battlegrounds at almost every bracket,most of the high rated players are alliance players and there are a couple of decent PvP guilds on this side.

The current problem with the Alliance is that there aren't too many hardcore raiding guilds,which will turn a recruitment in a tug of war.

Horde
Being aggressively dominated on most of the battlegrounds,many Horde players turn their anger towards the lower Alliance zones.Most of you might say that this happens on both sides,but there's only one faction that has at least 3 guilds that are dedicated to ganking players in Lakeshire and Darkshire,check the forum and you will see them recruiting.

The bright side of the Horde are their high number of raiding guilds that clear the content pretty fast,a very decisive factor for many players when choosing their faction.

Not much idea on horde but alliance is missing good priests a lot

On the horde side finding a Paladin is a pain in the as*, even a damn RET is hard to find, second probably most missing class would be Priest, and third shaman. On the other hard, horde side is full of DK.

if you are going to play PvE, i personally wont advice you to play on alliance side because PvE is almost dead on alliance if you are talking about english speaking EU end raid heroic mode guilds. The only two guilds in that category is <Animosity> & <Rebirth> on alliance side.
For the rest, <Murmur> has changed to NA times and rest of them require you to learn russian to raid with them

Last time i checked Rebirth doesn't require you to speak russian )

Well if your standard for starting out is to look at the top clearing guilds, you aren't going to have a good time :p I'd much rather see how many guilds are starting out with naxx at the moment, in which case you can play any class since if you're good and play regularly, you'll have a spot.

I kinda feel like horde has more pve players than alliance, especially when you camp stone for 2 hours searching for a tank and have the occasion to watch around 10 different groups of horde players get into the heroic dungeon you're recruiting for.
I also don't personally feel like alliance has all the good pvp players. I've seen a lot of good-geared and (sometimes) skilled pvp players from horde, notably from top pve guilds like memories, and they're a huge pain in the *** when they decide to premade in a bg or make raids on stormwind.
As others said any good player will always find his place in a raiding team.
