Hello everyone, i need some help. Days ago a guy in game wanted to do some arenas with me after i farmed him a lot of times, he whispered me that I was good and wanted to change partner and play arenas with me so he asked for my skype. I was kinda surprised since i know he is a good player so I said why not and I gave him my skype username... But after telling this story to my friends they told me to NOT believe him, he just wants to ddos me ,they said. Its a common thing specially in online games where there is competition.
So i googled and asked a bit about it..but i still have some questions:
- What can do a skype DDOSer to you? Only crash/lag your internet or can also see what are u doing, what are u typing, or other personal things?
- Can he still DDOS me even if i didnt accept him? Because I have his skype friend request pending and i'm not sure if accepting it or not. I didn't even write a single word to him. Does the DDOS begins when i accept him/enstabilish a connection or he just needs my username?
- In worst scenario, how can I know if i am under ddos attack and how can i clear my pc?
I already reset router 2 times and never logged skype again, I repeat: I didn't accept him neither replied to him on skype, but he has my username now.
a ddos attack can do anything from cause massive lag to rendering your internet so slow it's useless. they cannot access any information.
if you don't accept him you should be fine, they need to get a hold of your ip address to start ddosing (far as i know at least).
if a ddos attack hits you'll now, everything will lag like hell. and the only way to stop it would be to get a new ip.
Thanks for reply! What about facebook? If we add ourselves as friends can he ddos me? Maybe he doesnt want to do that and its only paranoia, but I want to be safe 100%, so facebook could be safe?
facebook should be okay, as i don't think they can get your ip from facebook. but you'd be giving them access to a lot more personal info by befriending them on facebook.
the messages in facebook are routed through facebook, not a direct connect between you and X, so don't worry
DDoS itself is not that big problem, if the attack is huge your entire isp network will be affected and they will mitigate it asap, if no you can just call their tech team
my suggestion is to close all your ports, if you have doubts that someone may have your ip address, not because of traffic attacks, but all the vulnerable pseudo program services listening to these ports
