Pandaria Characters from Other Realms

I have a general question about the game. I have been a premium member since 2011, and while I enjoy playing WOW life, or at least mine, doesn't' always allow for me to play. My question is, I have had several characters in the past but now, it has been a year or so, all or my characters are gone! Did Wormane go through another split, and are my characters retrievable?
