I logged in couple of times because I am returnee to the WoW after 5 years of not playing and I was setting up my addons.
When I finally fixed it all I couldn't log in for a minute or two, I was getting the log in denial but in the end I managed to get past the log in, only to be greeted by this:
Did the server crash and now is slowly letting ppl back online? Can someone tell me why I have to wait for 5 hours? Is your server this much limited?

The server is capped to 12.000 population and there are still more people trying to log in. Its amount is shown on the queue number. Before you ask if it's possible to raise it, no, for the moment, it's not, otherwise it will cause several stability issues.
However, there's a way for you do skip the queue, simply donate 10 bucks and it will automatically give you premium status. Premium status accounts are able to skip Icecrown's queue permanently.

Ok, but you still didn't tell me the reason why just 5 minutes ago I was able to log in and out freely and all of the sudden I have to wait 1111 places in the queue?

Log in/out between chars in the same account is fine.
You can also log out from your account but you will still be able to get back in if you take less than 5 minutes. Once that time expires, you will fall in the queue. To answer your question directly, no, the server didn't crash (I'm online for more than 1 hour).
If that doesn't match on what happened to you, then it might be some kind of a bug.
