do i need to do professions

im new to WoW and though i have a level 30 character i don't know if professions are something i have to do as most of my enjoyment comes from questing leveling etc. so if some one could tell me if it is optional or a necessity.

It is a necessity if you want to have income.
You need income if you want to pay for your stuff (skills, mounts, gear, etc).

you don't need them, you can cloth or other items and sell for cash. but professions do speed the process up, as well as lettin you make some decent items that you'd have to buy otherwise.
