Current status of MoP / Warmane

Hey there guys, an old school member here. I recently started playing again (MoP) and was wondering why the population was / is so low. Mainly, why is man power being directed into development of a expansion that's older than an average Warmane player? Or better, why start another project before finishing or at least partially finishing first one? Not everyone prefers staying in the past, new content is always refreshing and attracts new / more players. Any insight in this subject would be appreciated! Thank you for reading, and feel free to share your thoughts, I'd love to hear other opinions!
