How I think we could bring people in....

Alright, I'm gonna get some kinda smarty response about "Blizzard programming this" and "Blizzard makes it impossible" that, but hear me out here...

I've posted in other spots bringing up the idea of going into more recent expansions for the game before, but never fully in-depth. And I almost always got slammed with, "WoD sucked xD" or "Blizzard doesn't allow (insert arbitrary technical speech here)." But I want to seriously start a conversation about the idea of trying to have a Legion, or even WoD server. And again, I get it, WoD wasn't the best thing the game ever saw, but neither was taking the keychain away....

I'm going to organize this post a little bit. Or at least try.

1: Can it be done? Can a private Legion server even exist?

Yes it can. There are two servers that I found running right now. I won't list the two servers' names for the sake of my account, but two different services are offering Legion to their players.

2: How well is this working for them?

It's what is bringing in a lot of their player base, seemingly. Even with one of them offering two Cataclysm servers to boot.

3: How would Warmane having one affect it's own population?

I think that hosting a Legion server, or even a WoD server, would GREATLY increase our player base, as searching Google for private servers for Legion is a more common history bookmark in people's browsers then one would think. When I start typing "Legion...," it comes up in options. This would allow people to come and donate and get the newer end game experience, without the price of Blizzard. Even if 15$ isn't much to pay, it's also about 60ish$ to start up. There's no start up fee here, or any REQUIRED payments. All donations are exactly that. DONATIONS. Not a subscription. People, LOVE not paying for stuff, and playing free games.

4: Well, it's hard to get these kinda things running Apolemicc, do you wanna try and write coding?

I would sure try if it meant the betterment of Warmane. I love this private server, the people, and what it offers. I would love to see it grow, offer more, have bigger and better, and grow to be something amazing in the private server community.

5: Any closing statements before someone rips into you for being an airhead?

Yep. I think that a Legion server would be a fantastic idea for this server. Reiterating from earlier, it would bring more players in because of the "more recent content" and the fact that it's free. WITH A CLIENT DOWNLOAD TO BOOT.

As other people are going to say, I know that it takes a lot to put the servers and realms and all the other stuff up, run them, maintenance, and all the other things required, which, I don't truly know what needs done, but I believe it would all be worthwhile for the server to at least look into it more. I don't know if they already are, but here's a post to spark discussion.

Dismissing real problems you dont understand as "arbitrary technical speech" is stupid. Making a Legion private server is incredibly difficult, programming isnt as easy as you seem to think it is and it just isnt worth it for the staff to focus so many resources into it right now. They just opened a tbc realm thats doing amazingly well, I dont see the craze about "OMG WE NEED MORE PLAYERS".

I don't think Warmane need more players atm. We just reached 40k people online all across the realms and that is very good for a private server. "do you wanna try and write coding" "I would sure try if it meant the betterment of Warmane" dude developing an expansion isn't as easy as you think. You say that like you can complete this full Legion expansion in a month. If anyone can do that easily Blizzard will surely bankrupt lol. Why would we pay for monthly sub if we can play for free.

I highly doubt this community is in need of more players. I mean, as stated above, there's like 41k online right now (a lot may be afk tho), assuming that data is absolutely accurate. There's no other private server with such massive community right now. The only private server I can recall of having so many players at once, in actually just one realm, was Wowscape years ago (it was tbc realm) and they had like 20k in one realm -- they actually got sued by blizzard at some point. But that involved other subjects and other bull****s, I believe.

Would like to point out something I said....

I admitted to not knowing everything there is to know about this kinda thing. So I'm going to now dismiss those statements. As far as do I think we need it RIGHT NOW? No. I don't think we need it right this second, but I think it is something we should look towards. I wanted to start a discussion, and as I expected, I got rants about me not knowing coding and how putting up private servers and realms is. Which is why I mentioned it SPECIFICALLY.

I wanted discussion, not insulted, and told by other people who aren't on staff how much I don't know about this stuff. This is why I question having tried to do this in the first place. Apparently actually discussing things is hard for everyone here without pointing out how "wrong" people are.

    Except for you.....

You brought up a good point. Thank you.

I think it has always been a pressing issue, having the newest expansion on hand as a private server. But as stated digging into blizzards active player base is a big no no. More people more problems (with blizzard).

I thought about how warmane progress is in the future when old expansions become so obsolete that people barely remember them. Especially since a lot of new expansions for wow decreased in popularity.. Downwards after Wotlk.. Does that mean the same for private server population when old expansions start to wither..? Maybe.. But Legion certainly is an option (in probably 1-3 new expansions). But who knows, lets see how everything pans out.

But I feel its an overestimate that Legion will bring in a greater playerbase here. Most wow youtubers made videos about burnout and plenty of guilds stopped. I know this is not unique to WoD or Legion. But the frequency of which we see these become greater. If streamers were allowed to stream private servers on twitch, I think popularity would skyrocket for old stuff :-)

I trust that warmane is doing what is best of the community health overall to sustain and grow.

    1. Despite how cleverly you avoided advertising Legion Pservers it probably wasn't clever enough; inc account ban.

    2. Warmane stated they won't be released any new realms until the ones they have are in a state they like. Obviously Warmane has a tendency to say one thing and do another ("We're only moving forward with expansions" - *Lord launches*) but if this is anything like Lordaeron's no RDF realm feature they may very well mean they will not be releasing any new realms for quite some time...

EDIT: Here's a quote of my second point reference; just so Obnoxious doesn't try to blow me up.
We are not considering opening any other realms. There is a lot of work left to do on already existing expansions.
