What? This is not at all what the discussion is about. OP is telling people to stop using it to look for groups, while the people behind the server is activly advertising to use it that way.

Global chat did indeed exist in retal. Anyone can make a chat channel and have people join them, that is all global is. You could get people to type in /join worldchat and it would be exactly the same.
