I accidentally made a character with a name I really like, but he is the wrong class. Last time I deleted a character I wasn't allowed to use the name again even though the character doesn't exist. Anyway I can get this name on a different class before character wipe?

How did you fix it? I deleted my character in one realm to use the name on the other but it wouldn't let me. Sad :/

wait server crash/restart ( if you are talking about Wotlk realms)

How often do they reset the WotLK realms and does it also mean that other users can't use that username?

I do not know when it is gonna happen next restart, in fact you should hope on crash.
No one can use that name menawhile, just to be sure try to use it. If you ara still not able to use it then no one can.
