Very low fps on TBC client

    Hey guys,

I presume that, much like myself, many of you guys are already testing classes, specs etc. on the PTR or other instant 70 servers, preparing for Outland's release.

Now, one thing I noticed about playing on TBC client is - i have MUCH, MUCH lower fps than on WotLK, with the same in-game settings and on the same rig.

Does anyone know the reason why and how to mend it?

    My rig:

    FX 8300
    R9 380 4G
    Game stored on SSD
    Resolution: 1920x1080, 144Hz RR

I was watching resource monitor and neither my CPU or my GPU were being particularly stressed.

Normally I wouldn't complain about low fps, but it's a 10+ year old expansion, and in certain populated areas or in certain dungeons it's virtually unplayable (10-15 fps).

On WotLK my fps ranged between 50 and 120 fps, depending on the scenario.

I tried lowering all settings to Lowest, didn't make any difference.

Where all lvl 70 stuff is i.e goblin sellers i get 40-50 fps on max setting with Vsync turned off. With low settings it goes to 60 fps
when i'm out alone it goes over 100 fps.
I do have addons however in wrath i also got more fps.
    system is
    CPU 4790k
    GPU R9 280
    8 gig Ram
    Normal HDD
    1080p 60htz monitor

It's an old *** game. The performance is not optimized like Wotlk.

The best you can do is turn off shadow and lower view distance completely.

view distance is the bandit in most cases on TBC servers, have it at lowest or never above middle.

by default TBC WoW is using only 2 cpu's

for FX 8300 = 8 real cores you have to change it to
    SET processAffinityMask "255"
    or for auto mode
SET processAffinityMask "0" (or just DELETE entry)

8300 isn't 8 "real"cores if you look into it. like pretty much a 4 core with hyper threading lol

Thanks, man! This actually works quite nicely.
Indeed, TBC only uses 2-3 cores by default.

You can either use commands in the config as you suggested, or you can simply open your TBC wow.exe, exit to desktop, open task manager, switch to details on wow.exe, and enable all cores.

It doubled my fps. Even in densely populated area I am no longer lagging at all.

I feel like this is something people should be made aware of, perhaps even in one of Outland's main threads.

Ehrrr no, those AMD CPUs have 8 physical cores. Each pair of cores resides within a module, sharing a floating point unit.
And no, they have no hyper threading at all.

The definition of a core changes depending on the architecture, can't really compare them directly.

  10. I got more fps on Legion than tbc rofl
