Any amount gives premium status. Your friend has to donate on his own account to get it. There is no other way. Gifting coins or giving items does not make an account premium.

You need to donate a minimum of 10 EUR (minimum donation available) to get premium status.

10 euros are usually mentioned because that's the minimum amount available on regular donation window most of the time. Mobile donations and Bitcoin donations start from 1 euro and all of them give premium status.
