Any way to tell whether a name is taken?

Like others, I'm not a fan of the new policy where a particular name is unusable for 30 days after a name change or character deletion. One problem I have is knowing, assuming I want to change to a particular name, whether it's on the 30-day cooldown or not. Armory searches will only tell whether that name is presently being used.

Before this change, you could make a level 1 test character to see if the name is taken, and then delete it. That won't work now, since it will trigger the 30 day cooldown. So how do we know for sure, before paying for a name change, whether a name is taken?

I have not heard anything about this? Is this something someone from the staff can confirm?

Add it to friends list. If it's not taken, it will say "player not found".

I agree, this 30 days name policy is pointless and basically 99% of the community is against it, I hope in some changes.

Well is this something that has been added just now? Cause just a week ago I had a name on one of my lv 1 toons that I deleted and passed to one of my 80s. Are you sure this is correct?

Yes, I tried to move a name from a level 1 to an 80 a few days ago- it said the name was unavailable even after the level 1 was deleted. Warmane mods confirmed the 30 day cooldown in these threads:
