Is there any way i can gift my friend some of the coins i have, so he can buy a char?

Services > Coin Gifting. There is a fee when gifting coins. You will see it on coin gifting window. After you gift the coins, your friend will have to wait 72 hours before he can use them to buy a character.

I did the same thing, it has been 72 hours. I still cannot spend the coins..:(
