Cataclysm what happend to my characters

I had 2 high level characters on frostwolf on cataclysm but now they are gone is there any way to get them back?
I had a level 76? paladin and a level 79 or 78 level deathnight

Frostwolf is MoP realm. Neltharion (Cataclysm realm) was closed and realm transfers to MoP and wotlk were available but I think it was only for max level characters. Now it's too late to transfer anything.
