WotLK Help with gearing

New to this game. I am currently lvl 55 and having a hard time with mana usage and having a hard time surviving mobs in western plaguelands even if I am the same level as the area. You need to use shield or most of the talent points into Protection are low benefit or wasted. Some skills require shield to be equipped, so you cant use full defensive and damage potential of Protection pala.

Despite there being smaller difference on lower levels:
Protection talents may end up being slower to level, because you will need to stop and drink/heal, unlike Retribution talents, where you have lower defenses, more damage and infinite mana with Judgements of the Wise talent + Seal of Command glyph - you can just kill mobs 24/7 unless you pull too many.

Make sure you train new spell ranks from Trainer every few levels.
You can get gear from quest rewards, drops, dungeons, crafting and other players(Auction House). You gear seems fine, what you get "passively" will suffice, just use your skills properly.
