1. In Follow-Up to Slandaman21's "advice" on fixing perma-black screen

    https://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=403829

In response to the comment on the second page of this about how Windows 10 gives you a bug with old clients that gets you stuck in a black screen when trying to switch between windowed mode and full screen mode.

Slandaman21 just gave the haphazard advice of "just delete WTF folder works every time :)" without any context.

It needs to be stated if this is going to remain searchable on the internet. This will apparently completely delete ALL settings that you have in your game period. Not just interface, graphics, audio/visual, but MACROS, ADDONS, and KEY BINDINGS. I spent HOURS over the course of leveling and playing my characters customizing these settings and key bindings and macros including supermacro lua texts of custom scripts that I figured out for myself, getting everything the way I wanted on multiple characters and this "fix" would have erased those hours of my life that I would have to re-trace.

This would effectively waste at least a day of playing time trying to re-configure everything. In case anyone else struggling with this problem goes searching for answers, I don't know how this info can be highlighted. But that thread was one of the first things to pop up when googling the problem. And I made an account just to give this warning since the thread was locked.

I found a fix that worked that I didn't see anywhere else. At the end of my Config.txt file was SET DesktopGamma "1" and it seemed like an unnecessary line so I deleted it, saved the file, tried again and now full-screen works with no problems. Thankfully I was able to restore the WTF folder that I had deleted, made that change and now everything works and all my macros/addons/key bindings are back. But if someone was not able to restore/modify their deleted WTF folder that would be a huge problem. Now I know to back up those files regardless.

  2. Seems like yet another case of why we have warning labels.
