This is not WOTLK. Tanks don't generate all the threat they need by just existing in general vicinity of mobs they are supposed to tank. If mobs are running towards tank because he shot an arrow/bullet/threw a burning faerie to their general direction that does not mean he has aggro established. He needs to hit the mobs, all of the mobs. More than once.
Establishing aggro, specially aoe aggro in vanilla takes time. Warriors don't have any damaging aoe in defensive stance at all. All they can do is use shouts to generate low aoe threat and cycle single target abilities one mob at a time. Thunderclap hits 4 targets but works only in battle stance = does low threat. Bear can use shouts for low aoe threat same as warrior for big pulls and use swipe that hits only 3 targets for rather low threat.
All those abilities require rage to be used. To generate rage tank needs to hit mobs and be hit by them. If you pull aggro then you not only burn through healers mana because you're a squishy little *****, but also reduce tank's ability to generate rage from damage taken. If tank can't generate rage = he cant use his abilities = he can't generate threat = everyone starts pulling aggro and everyone dies.
If tank has to run around chasing mob you pulled while you are running around panicking, he does not generate threat on the rest of the pack = rest of dps gets aggro, healer gets aggro = tank has no rage to save your sorry asses and AoE Taunt still has 10 min cooldown left because you ****ed up just 5 min ago = everyone dies.
If tank is pulling pack of mobs waaaay back to prevent them from running for reinforcements then sit your *** down and wait. Do not use aoe abilities straight after pull before tank has established strong aggro, attack only targets tank has marked in order he has marked them. If you get agro run towards tank, not away from him. Do not run through the dungeon in front of the tank, noone cares about your orientation skills. Do not pickpocket mobs before tank has pulled them - pickpocket has chance to be resisted and everyone knows you did not invest in Master of Deception anyway. If you're a dagger rogue and you just had too much sugar and can't help yourself but attack same second mob has acknowledged tanks existence, for the love of Sylvannas do not use ambush or backstab as your opener. Turn off your pets taunt ability. Don't let it run wild.
Thank you.
Tank players feel free to post your grievances down bellow.

I was really surprised coming from WOTLK to classic and see "Revenge" does literally Nothing in comparison to WOTLK and not being able to use "Thunderclap" in defensive stance and I was like: "What the hell is going on...?" then I thought of stance dancing and that didn't work too...
so as u said I had to attack the mobs 1 by 1 and let me tell u guys, IT IS NOT FUN when dps's start AOEing and getting aggro and then running around like
some headless chicken...
So please adjust to new tanking system and try to be more understanding, this is not wotlk so we cant just smash keyboard and get aggro for days...
As a warlock, I have been guilty of this. I somehow had wotlk warrior tanking in my mind and figured warrior can just snap a thunderclap and its good. I have lately been waiting 3-5 seconds and its changed a lot. I no longer have mobs running toward me.
well its rdf, u get queue with randoms and i doubt these randoms even gonna read this thread. if u feel like they should know, then tell em that u need to build some aggro at pulls. if they cant help themselves for being stupid, then let em die.
Thats why u just go gigachad arms and tank with sweeping tc in battle u do more dps then anyone anyway so you should keep agro. 1 hand + shield is garbage

Imagine having 30 rage for sweeping strikes and then 25 more for whirlwind when pulling cold from 0 because healer burned all mana on you during last pull :()
Warriors DO NOT have a ranged TAUNT. If you get agg, don't run like a moron. Run to the TANK. If I'm not getting hit I'm also not producing rage as my DMG has a 10% reduction. I then cannot maintain the threat.
I also hate priests casting PWS on me pre-pull. It means no rage since i take no damage. I also hate all dps choosing a different mob to burst down after a pull instead of focusing on my target.

Been tanking mostly as Druid. I've noticed even trash mobs are often immune to taunts...so even if they run to us, taunting doesn't help. We still often need a few GCD's to pull threat back...often more.
But no, the biggest issue I've seen as a tank with my DPS beyond starting before I've established threat...is splitting their DPS. So what I'd say to DPS in a rant is FOCUS a target. Most of our threat generation is single-target abilities, and we can't spread them out between 3-5 mobs if every DPS wants to go full-ham on their own target...if we can focus our threat on a single mob, it really does help you be able to go all-out without pulling the mob off us.
