1. Need your advice

Hello. Me and my wife will start icecrown server and i am very excited to play with her. But im not sure which horde class to chose for both of us. I played MMO RPG games before and have a very little knowledge about game and this will be the first online game of my wife. I searched a lot and decided to chose an orc fury warrior for ne and an orc destro warlock for my wife because they all say it is easy to play with theese. I need your advice for a better start. Thx

  2. Hello and welcome.

Yes, fury warrior and destro warlocks are easy to play.

  3. TLDR: Your choice is not bad, but not optimal.

In my opinion the best and easiest pairs to level are always 1 tank + 1 aoe dmg dealer and ideally one of them (the dd) should be able to heal.

On the tanking part, prot warrior, feral druid, prot/ret pally is a good choice. On the damage dealer side anything with early aoe skill works (mage with blizzard, priest with holy nova, warlock with rain of fire, druid with hurricane...). Some classes get its aoe quite late, so rogue is a very slow leveler. Hunter gets volley at lvl40...

Fury warrior does lower dmg and takes more damage on low levels than prot warrior and can't hold threat. I started to level one warrior as fury and one as arms, after changing them both to prot, the leveling / questing became much easier (high damage revenge on 2 enemies regardless of weapon and free heroic strikes with glyph).

As for the damage dealer destro warlock is a good choice. He gets rain of fire at lvl 20. From then on you can deal with enemies easily. At lvl 50 the warlock gets shadowfury - an aoe stun, which further increases dmg and survivability, but still I think for a warrior a better pair is a caster druid or shaman or a retribution paladin. Early on both the shaman and druid will have mana issues (ret pally less so), but also warrior will kill enemies so fast, it will not need help with the damage, rather the healing will help more and will save time which you would otherwise spend on eating food/bandaging.

For leveling i would rather pair a destro warlock to a ret/prot pally than a warrior, but regardless what I said, you should play characters and roles you are comfortable with.

As for races, orcs are in general the best pve race, in rare cases trolls perform better, but this shouldn't stop you choosing a race you like. It takes less than 30 minutes to get to any different starting location while getting to lvl80 will be a much longer journey.

  4. Hi. Tbh, taking "advices" about what race/class you need to play on a forum where everyone has subjective opinions is the worst thing you could ever do. I play both horde and alliance, have many classes/specs on each side. The "go play ork cuz it's the best" advice is quite funny, keeping in mind that this is not true for 99% of the cases. Indeed, if you are bis and know every tactic and every rotation in the game and you are competing against other players who are bis and also know every rotation and every possible tactic, then yes, you will perform slightly better than them, but that's all. Imo, the myth that "ally dominates in pvp" and "horde is better at pve" is also completely untrue as well on both sides, it all depends whether you're facing a premade in a bg or if you have an experienced group in a raid. You know what the fun in wow is? The fun is to create your char the way you like it, learn the game, grind and eventually find out for yourself what works better for you. By listening to some "advice" about what you "MUST" play takes away all the fun of this game.

So, in the end, you can listen to some advice that tells you to play something specific and don't look right or left, or you can listen to my advice and try to start with something that you like (including what your wife likes, DO NOT try to say like "oh, make an orc warlock cuz people say it's the best", as I said before, it's the best only when you have the best gear, which could take full years of grinding or 5 mins if your wallet allows you :) ), slowly learn everything by experiencing it yourself and by doing this, you will thank me later.

Also, just a heads-up, there are many toxic players on both sides. Expect A LOT more toxicity in this game than in any other, because here, anyone can play for free and there are legit an insane amount of people with real mental illnesses/psychos or people who enjoy making the game harder for others, since real life hits them hard and here's the only way where they can act "tough".

  5. Doesn't matter what you start with. eventually as you discover the game more you'll try other classes too. my first char on warmane/molten was a fury warrior too =) have fun with it.
