Yeah don't use Bittorrent, Limewire, or Frostwire. You're just asking for spyware and malware. The most infected PC's I've ever seen were downloading all sorts of free **** from limewire. I understand why you wouldn't want to use them.
I used QBittorrent, which is open source. I downloaded the game, ran a virus scan on it, and then shut down QBittorrent. I don't have it launch at startup and it doesn't run in the background.
I avoid P2P downloaders like the plague and I don't go out searching torrents for free ****. In this specific case you should be able to briefly use one to download the specific file and then shut it down and virus scan your download before you use it. It should be safe as long as you aren't browsing torrent sites looking for free ****, and you aren't letting the program run in the background doing whatever.
What does the error say?
Make sure QBIttorrent is the associated program for torrent links. If it's the only torrent program on your computer it should handle those links automatically.
If you're unable to handle torrents, use this:

- Large Address Aware.exe is in case you have memory-related crashes
- Redistributables are in case you're having visual c++ or directx issues, but there's no harm in just running both repacks to make sure you're sorted on that end
