Killed without PvP On

Got a friend of mine to join me in the Lordaeron server, he made a Blood Elf warlock, finished a quest, went to fight mana wyrms, and a player comes out of stealth, one shots him, re-enters stealth and goes away, has done it 3 or 4 times in a row, they're both level 1, it is claiming my friend hit him first, but that shouldn't be possible, right? He's also one-shotting my friend each time. Have a screenshot and combat log for it if needed.

Any ideas? I haven't played WoW in over a decade, let alone classic, so maybe there's something I'm unaware of.

it's common for them to sit inside quest npcs or enemies, so when you go attack them you actually click and attack him, flagging your pvp on. AoE spells also flag you for pvp. Healing, buffing friends who have pvp on will tag your pvp flag also.

Simply relog to remove pvp flag, target with TAB or nameplates, be careful with aoe. Bind "interact" key, so you don't have to click on NPCs apart from targeting them.

I wonder if the friend did the Belf AoE racial and that hit the rogue -> PvP turned on.
