1. I don't think soloq for BG would be a good solution.
Ppl would just disable merc mode and then use AV enabler to solo queue at the same time. Then in the end they would still be able to team up in BG.
Beside that WoW is ment to be played together and ppl shouldn't be punished for teaming up.
Just to clarify, my suggestion was to force enable mercenary mode for anyone who chooses to solo queue for random battlegrounds. They can add a NPC that does this with reduced rewards (relative to current random battleground), and even allow you to queue for specific role(s) through dialogue or commands. The current queuing system will still exist, but will basically only be used for premades and those who want the current rewards (arena rating and bonus honor). At the very least this can be one of the first steps they take in creating a queuing system for Rated Battleground.

The solution is to just cap HKs at 100k, or at least make it so people can't see your HKs above 100k. Then there would be no more incentives to farm HKs.
I fully support this recommendation. The leaderboard display for honorable kills on the website should also be removed. This will remove the motivation for HK farmers to spam battlegrounds nonstop.

  2. I was thinking to make all BGs on level 80 rated.
The BG gear brackets could be removed and instead they could implement a BG mmr which works similar to arena.
Then ppl of similar mmr would be placed together in a BG no matter if they queue alone or as party.
Since players who do lots of premades would have a high mmr they would mostly be placed against other premades.

Then they could replace the HK scoreboard by a rated BG score board and maybe also find a way to display the BG rating at the character panel in game.

  3. A hybrid system which places ppl together based on their BG mmr and their gear level could also work.

Those are good ideas. We need ways to encourage players to play BGs properly.

As of right now I actually prefer solo queue RBG with mercenary mode on as Alliance rather than being part of my guild's premades. Interestingly, since I started tracking my random solo BG statistics independently on an excel spreadsheet (60 games so far), I notice a much higher win rate as Horde. My overall win rate is at 50%, and if I throw out all the BGs that already begun when I joined, it goes up to 58.7%. This is as a retribution paladin that normally sits near or at the top of scoreboards.

Edit: And as a side note, I noticed only 14 out of 60 games (under 25%) were roughly evenly matched based on number of kills. For the most part, Alliance and Horde seem to dominate roughly the same amount of times regardless of maps. Unsurprisingly, the most imbalanced map is Warsong Gultch, with virtually no even matches so far. Isle of Conquest seems to be under-represented in my data (only 3 games instead of the typical 9-12), maybe the distribution will even out as I collect more data.
