Why has the mop realm Frostwolf existed for many years? There are hardly any players, and no work is being done on the realm.
Couldn't Frostwolf be ended and something new tried? One possibility would be that players from Wotlk could play on fresh Cata realms or something entirely new.
I believe Frostwolf being a "passion project" was thrown somewhere in here when asked about its status.
What comes to more realms, or other expansions.. We've had Frostmourne - seasonal WotLK 3 times now, we had Cataclysm - it had low pop much like Frostwolf before being decommissioned, we also had TBC - which wasn't that popular on long term.
I don't think there's much desire for most of the (loyal) WotLK players to progress/switch to fresh Cataclysm.
Went to a random website listing privates. Lordaeron according to it had 1000 - 5000 players. That's probably daily average according to some source.
I then checked Legion servers listed, and the average player count combined is 4.1k players based on their max number (equivalent of the 5000 on Lordaeron). 4.1k across 12 different servers.
Could say Legion servers just aren't pulling that many players. I mean it's not the most accurate research on topic, but it's still something to consider.
Legion server probably just isn't what Warmane is interested in.
Vanilla, TBC and Wotlk are popular and comparable easy to script.
All Xpacs after that would require lots of development effort and at the same time these Xpacs are unpopular.
So imo it's not worth the effort to release any xpac after wotlk.
Played all expansions before legion and they were between amazing experience to average, while legion was the worst, system reworked to be as casual friendy as possible, no more individuals, no unique specs, everyone the same, it was clone wars, terrible expansion overall. Legion was my last expansion and I never truned back to global.
