Community Thoughts: Would You Play on a Cataclysm Realm?
Hey everyone,
I've been playing on Warmane since 2013, back in the Molten-WoW days, and I’ve seen it all the transition to Warmane. I've played through all the content from Vanilla to WotLK, participated in all the big events, farmed achievements, and leveled multiple classes. WoW is still one of my favorite games, but after all these years, things have become a bit repetitive.
I know that Warmane has officially stated that they will not create new realms at this time, so this is NOT a request for one. However, I was curious about the community's thoughts, would you play on a Cataclysm realm if it were ever considered in the future?
* Do you think a new expansion would bring back old players and refresh the server?
* Are there still people interested in playing Cata, or is WotLK just the perfect stopping point?
Again, I’m not asking Warmane to make this happen, just curious to see how many others feel the same way. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Could always entertain the idea of having fun playing Cataclysm for a change, but in reality it would be short lived most likely.
I do remember the struggle to get an invite to End Time runs. The typical treatment people give you when they judge your damage/skill purely on ilvl, or GS, alone.

So like wotlk, only on wotlk you already know how to jump through the hoops.

Pretty much. Saving a DMG report from a straightforward fight didn't help. Whenever I got to a run or two, I was the one with low(est) ilvl but highest DPS/DMG most of the time.
Absolutely. Many classes were improved (gameplaywise) and were reworked to require more careful resource management during Cata, but became that much more interesting because of it, in my opinion. Dungeons and Raids introduced very interesting mechanics. Also, flying mounts through Azeroth!
Unfortunately, the same points I consider as a plus, were received as negative by the people that got used to the gamplay style and rush mentality of late WoTLK, meaning, that the average population of Icecrown wouldnt be interested in playing Cata.
And, along what OhieMitzen commented, I also believe that the gatekeeping already happening in Icecrown server regarding GS/Ilvl requirements would be even worse considering the more challenging content. Although this last point could improve with time, when all the GOGOGOers started leaving because they died too much in a dungeon or they couldnt clear them in under 10 mins.
Having played caraclysm a lot even as the most unbalanced classes/speccs (to my advantage) there was many things I really dissliked, mainly a huge reduction in "class identity", due to the fact that 10man raids dropped the same items as 25man raids, killing off the majority of 25man raids/guilds and giving many classes more raid buffs in order to get a "fully raid buffed" 10man raid example giving mages "bloodlust/heroism".
LFR, Talent Trees. Huge balancing issues.
There was several things in cataclysm I liked too though, like classes rotation having some extra flavor, most raids was well made and actually really good, vanilla content leveling and zones (even though I didn't like flying in Azeroth) It was well needed and made leveling way more fun.
The new races, Goblin and Worgen's starter areas and quests (most of them atleast) was also really nice.
The negative changes outweights the positive changes though and that shows in the playerbase dropping everytime it goes from wotlk to cataclysm.
