I'd love to suggest something that could really enhance the training area for players—especially tanks, but not only them!
Back in the day, there was an NPC in World of Warcraft called Stalwart Phalanx (ID 154586). What made it unique was that, unlike regular training dummies, this one actually fought back. It wasn't just a static target; it was a level 60 elite mechanical NPC with the subtitle “Raider’s Tanking Dummy”. That alone made it an incredible tool for players who wanted to practice not just their damage rotation, but also:
Why is this useful?
Because a normal dummy doesn’t push you to think defensively. With a reactive dummy, you simulate real combat situations without having to queue into content or bother a group. It’s perfect for tanks learning the ropes, or experienced players wanting to fine-tune their survivability.
Who benefits?
Mostly Warrior tanks and other tank classes, of course — but really, any class with defensive utility or cooldowns could benefit from this. Healers could even test how their passive procs or cooldowns perform under real pressure scenarios, solo.
What would the NPC do?
It could be something simple, like:
[]Standing in place (no movement)
Dealing periodic melee or spell damage
Balanced damage output for training (not lethal)
Maybe scalable level/stats based on player’s item level
Bottom Line:
Adding a reactive training dummy would be a huge quality-of-life feature, especially for players serious about performance. It’s a low-risk, high-value addition to any training zone.
Thanks for reading — and I hope this is something worth considering!
Never gonna happen. They won't even relocate/add Training dummies in more desirable spots. Training dummies would get 10x the usage if they weren't exclusively buried in the back of capital cities. Good luck with your suggestion though.
