Hello, I've been logged in for months now and I saw that I had to rename my characters and that my gold had disappeared, mainly on the characters in which I had over 20,000 gold.

Inactivity Cleanup and Gold Squish for a healthier economy could explain it, if timing and rest of the details match. That's most likely what happened.

I understand what you mean, but now I won't get any gold back because it wasn't a little, and for level 80 with nothing, it's a bit bad.

Gold squish happened to everyone, so many are in the same boat. Especially if you've been fairly inactive for multiple gold squishes, like myself. Personally just run some RDF's or quests to get some gold when I need it.

Money can be obtained from playing the game.

You get plenty of gold by doing dailies, raids, professions. This time convert your gold into items before leaving for an extended break. Gems, Primordial Saronites and other commonly traded goods usually retains their value quite well. Even if you lose some money, it's probably better than losing half if you did nothing.
