Terrible selection of players on BG

Yes, I know that the topic is old, but I still don't understand
I had a gs of 4500 - I was playing against BlackRock players with a gs of 5500+
Now I have a gs of 5300 (I'm not ready for BlackRock yet), and I'm playing against players with a gs of 6200+

    Has anyone encountered this?
Have you read the forums about how to move to a lower division?
What are the criteria for selecting opponents? It's clearly not based on gs.

The more I see these bgs the more it seems that there is no criterion.
It all seems like a mixture in which everything ends up inside.

I wrote to in-game support. They said that you need to create a topic on the forum

Nothing in the game uses "GS."
There's no moving to a lower bracket.
    The criteria aren't public.
The game itself has no brackets at all, it would put everyone in whatever gear in the same match. The fact we went through the trouble of creating some brackets to separate players to a certain extent, and people still come complain about "iMbAlAnCe," has made me wish we removed brackets and let people play the game as it was for a while now.

You didn't get my point. What you did separately is correct. But you have an error, an error in the division algorithm.

No, you just don't know how it works.

Let's say it's your opinion. I have other things, and that's what I'm sharing.

Because the algorithm is closed. I'll make a guess: As soon as a player acquires an item above a certain ILVL, you transfer it to a new division. Thus, having an average ILVL of 188, and one item with an ILVL of 264, I will play with players whose ILVL is 264. This is what I am observing at the moment. The sample is small, about 8 characters.

There are few opportunities to study the algorithm, so I will continue to study.

My opinion is you just read older posts on the subject, seeing as you were talking about GS until a couple hours ago.

Yep this is what they did for the Frostmourne server so players couldn't be matched up with them that had items they couldn't obtain yet.

That would be my observation as numerous times I've seen terribly geared players walk into these higher brackets because they had Shadowmourne. I don't think it's the only variable though. I think they use overall max item level (from gear, bags and bank) and treat it like MMR so it just matches you with players that are closest to your gear which is variable because there aren't always players close to your gear online.

It has nothing to do with that.

Maybe so, but I also remember it like that. I have no idea if it's something I read from other players, from the staff, or my own intuition.

Some people began abusing the system, for example by using low iLevel armor and a much higher iLevel weapon so the average iLevel was much lower and they would go around one-shoting people, so measures were taken. This was just one of the measures taken over time as people kept digging for ways to abuse brackets.

    It's in the devlog.

"Update on the WoTLK battleground brackets
    January 20, 2021

A few days ago we adjusted the way battlegrounds are bracketed at level 80. Previously we had two brackets, the 'low gear' and' high gear' brackets as we call them. However, we noticed there was still a major imbalance even within these brackets. Players with absolute starter gear, were playing with or against players with decent but not end-game gear, full season 6 PvP gear for example. Obviously this is not ideal and we wanted to do something about that.

We reworked the matching system to have more 'gear brackets'. It will now dynamically scale depending on queue times and thus the amount of players in-game. But we also added safeguards to make sure players from Frostmourne will (under acceptable queue time circumstances) never meet players with gear not available yet on the realm. That means Frostmourne players will now meet more players from other realms, especially when better gear is involved. But the matches on all realms will be much more balanced overall.

As always, we are keeping a close eye on the new matchmaking system and are constantly finetuning the system. We want to see everyone having a fighting chance in battlegrounds, no matter how good or bad your character is geared."

    <totally unrelated announcement quote>
Which isn't what makes people jump brackets for "having an average ILVL of 188, and one item with an ILVL of 264," just means Frostmourne players wouldn't be set against players with items they couldn't get themselves.

I wasn't agreeing with that specific scenario. I'm saying the idea of using specific items to influence the match making process is a thing and it was something used on Frostmourne. I don't know the exact parameters of it, I just have observed it's being used.

The actual item level matching I think is just based off the arena match making system. I also don't know the specifics of it, but based on the developer's description I assume it's like MMR where you're grouped with similar item level players and then as queue times increase it matches you with players farther outside your range which is what creates the OP complaint where they're placed in matches with higher geared players.
