WotLK Returning player - realms have characters but can't retrieve them

Hi,

I'm returning after playing many years ago. 2 realms (Lordaeron and Icecrown) say I have 1 character on each (I thought I would have had a bank alt at least too though)...

However, when I choose those realms, it says "Retrieving Character List...", but when it finishes, none of my characters are there.

How can I restore my old characters?

If your characters deleted due to the Inactivity Cleanup, you won't be able to restore the characters.
Also, seeing 1 character in the realm selection doesn’t necessarily mean your characters still exist on the server. If the server has deleted them, it won’t remove the saved files on your local device. The game counts those leftover files as if you still had 1 character on that realm.
