I've heard this several times but wanted to be sure it's correct. When the Onyxia server finishes it's life cycle and we can move the alts to other servers, would I be able to move them all to Icecrown if I already have some alts there? I'm a bit of an altoholic, and so between the Alliance characters I have on Icecrown and the Horde ones I have on Onyxia, I have more than 10 characters. I know there's a 10 character creation limit, but I saw something about I can have more than 10 alts on Icecrown through transfers?
Is that true? Is it something I can do without having to spend money, or is it something I can only do if I do spend money? I don't really know how this would work, hence my question

Yes, you'll be able to merge them into the Icecrown realm. also, there's a feature called the Barracks where you can store extra characters , whether they're over the limit or not. This allows you to free up space for creating new characters in-game. The characters you store in the Barracks remain tied to your account but won't appear in the game until you choose to activate them again.
The merge is totally free and available only when the realm reach it final phase.

Correct me if I'm wrong. By saying they'll be in the barracks but won't appear in game, you mean that they'll be stored to the server, but I can't actively play them and swap between them unless I activate them and deactivate a different character? Just, trying to get in my head how this works

Exactly. The barracks feature allows you to have more characters on Icecrown than the client can handle, but that means that you have to manually select the ones that you want the client to display.

ah. ok. so as an example, if i wanna play my draenei mage but they're stored in the barracks, i need to put another alt into the barracks before i can pull out my draenei mage?

Even though you can have 18 characters in Icecrown, the client can only display 10, so if you have 10 characters enabled you will have to disable one before you can enable another one.

You can only have 10 active characters on the realm. You choose through barracks which ones you want to have as active ones.

Thank you very much. That helps me a lot. I'm an alcoholic cause I enjoy having variety to play, plus with my ADHD I tend to be in the mood for different things. One day I may wanna be playing an Undead Warlock, the next I might wanna play a Draenei Mage. 18 characters is plenty enough for me here, since there's only so many race-class combos I enjoy anyways, and it's just short of that 18 limit.

I think I'd rather just stay on one account. Thank you again though for the help. You and the others who responded. I was just wanting to make sure it was true the alt transfer thing, plus how the barracks worked. :)

I want to ask, will the Trade function ever be added to the character store on Onixia? so that classes can be exchanged with players who want to play something else?
