I just want to say that whoever thinks that buying mats at inflated prices right now is a good way to prepare for the gold squish, is only screwing himself/herself. While I understand the reason behind this logic - people want to minimise the amount of squished gold after the event happens - it's important to note that prices on the AH drop as well, sometimes even below the 50% of the current ones. Now, I can't speak for the situation on Icecrown, but as a Lordearon player, who has played there for a couple of years, I feel confident to give you a good example for what I'm saying. As I'm currently writing this post, these are the prices of primordials on the AH:
For the sake of simplicity, let's assume that the average price of a single primordial is exactly 900g. You have 1000g and decide to buy a primo just so you use your gold before it's reduced. Now you have 100g and after the squish happens, you'll be left with 50g.
If you don't use your gold at all, you'll be left with 500g. Here comes the important part - the prices of the primordials will also drop. Now, in the first few days people WILL TRY to sell them at pre-squish prices (900g) and then at halved squished prices (400-450g), but you should ignore them and wait. Eventually, the prices will drop to 300g, some people might even sell the primos for less than that. So, if you don't do anything with your gold pre-squish, you let the staff reduce it, and you wait patiently for the prices to fall to reasonable amounts after the squish, you'll be left with more gold that way.
This is one of the tricks I use. I don't remember how much gold I let the staff take away from me last year, I think it was 5k from my 10k, but after the gold squish I was left with some "pocket money" which allowed me to find good deals which otherwise would have been impossible had I had only a few gold pieces on me. I hope that what I said above will give inexperienced players some food for thought and an incentive to re-evaluate their preparation methods surrounding the gold squish.
That's because you only have 1 account and donated to avoid this. i have more than 20 accounts and didn't donate any of them
I also have 5 accounts completely full with characters, but that's literally irrelevant? lmao
logging your character takes 4 seconds. maybe if you're dumb and not in a rested zone for instant logout or have ****ty internet and your loading screen takes 2 minutes. but either way. name removal is 365 days not played. lv 1-50 character removal is 200 days not played.
you are actually trying to convince people to believe that you care that much about an online character on a private server even though you haven't played that character ONCE in over 200 days? get real buddy
kinda crazy you have to write an entire book just for people to understand this.
(also biggest reason things like primos go up in price before squish is because 'people' dont wanna risk the squish happening earlier than expected and risk their primos getting sniped when AH prices get cut. imagine buying out primos for 160g. BIS)

It took me 45mins just to log in and off every toon i had. and no i don't play most of those, i still want to keep them. why would i work hard to make toons only to lose them because i haven't played them in a while ? i play here since 2012. Get real buddy.
you only have to log the ones you havent played in the past 200 days.. and congrats. only 45 mins and you dont have to do it again for another year.
possible hoarding issues?
idk still dont see the issue.
ok same? whats ur point?
You said : "just log ur toons? lmao
never had this issue"
Yeah, and i tell you, we do. i do. lots of people do unless they log their toon, wich prevent the issue. wich is losing the name/toon. why cant you read ?
you do not see the full picture: people buy primo for lets say 900 g. Price drops to 450 or lower, just hold them.
Resell primo after few months for 700-900 = only 200 g to 0 gold "loss of gold".
Usually this is not a strategy for players with 10k gold only but for the whales. I even saw a guy buying the 225 BOEs from the vendors from other players.

I beg your pardon? How do I not see "the full picture"? I thought I was quite thorough with my explanation. Seeing that there's still some misunderstanding, let me explain the situation once again:We have 1000g, the gold squish hasn't occurred yet, and the price of a single primo is 900g.
Scenario 1:
- I buy the primo for 900g pre-squish;
- I am left with 100g which becomes 50g after the gold squish;
- I keep the primo and resell it after a few months for 700-900g.
=> After the gold squish, I am left with 50g and a primo.
Scenario 2 (what I explained above):
- I don't do anything with my gold and wait for the gold squish to occur;
- the gold squish reduces my gold to 500g;
- people put the primos for 400-450g on the ah, but I ignore those prices;
- I wait until the price of a single primo falls to 300g, and then I buy it;
- I keep the primo and resell it after a few months for 700-900g.
=> After the gold squish, I am left with 200g and a primo.Is it clear what I'm saying?
Btw, I'm not a player with only 10k gold. Last year, I managed to reach the gold cap prior to the gold squish. Most of it was converted into (tradeable) goods that I purchased from a certain NPC in Shattrath. The 10k gold I mentioned earlier was but a small percentage of what I had. Since I expected the prices of primos/consumables/other mats to fall drastically after the gold squish, I decided to have some "pocket money" so that I could have the opportunity to play the AH and to benefit from "good deals".
Damnit ive waited for over half a year to get finaly my name freed up and the guy is lvl 72 and is offline for 10 months.. just because of 2 months i still dont get my name freed -.- and on Onyxia the dude that have it is actually long enough offline but this realm dont get the cleanup.. and i dont mean squish
it is always better to sell everything now, let your gold get cut and rebuy everything back for 30-40% after squish, AH will be flooded with cheap shiz with almost no demand for a few weeks or even months
