His ignorance was what killed him. He ran into Alaska blinded and got himself killed from his lack of knowledge and experience. His idealism is inspiring though. When I first watched the movie I loved it because I've always just wanted to let go of everything and just go. Go out, away from all people and live on my own for some time.
If he would of invested more time in learning about Alaska's wildlife, plants, how to hunt properly and just how to really survive in such a place then I would of respected him.
i must admit my ignorance of the person which are you people talking about..may i know the name?
Liberia and Burma/Myanmar are countries too.
Into the Wild is the movie we're talking about and it is a "true" story based on Christopher Mccandless.
It's a good movie but if you do research behind it you find out that the main character, Christopher Mccandless, was a complete moron that didn't know a damn thing of living out in the wild lol.
To be fair, he tried to learn how to survive but for the wrong climate, he asked for help from hunters in South Dakota, but didn't think it would different for Alaska. I admit his ignorance is what killed him, he did atleast put some effort into it. He got books from the University which describe the edible plants and everything, and his final demise is currently that he ate moldy seeds, if you only watched the movie or read an older version of the book it would be that he ate poisonous plant that looked like a nontoxic one. But from current thoughts, he ate seeds with poisonous mold.

On a slightly different note, I sometimes dream about living on my own, somewhere away from the civilized world, somewhere deep in the mountains. Just myself and the nature around me. And then I wake up and I'm still somewhere in the city, probably at the University, just waiting each day to pass, wishing for a tomorrow that will never come.
I think most people have wished for that at least once in their life. I either dream about living out in the water by myself or deep in the mountains.
But then I realized that it wouldn't be too easy lol.
what i see....he choose a really bad place to do that....more than anything....i know the feeling of people who want to live away from everything far away from the city, but from what i have read..he shouldnt have chosen such a hostile place to stay...
thanks for letting me know
I'd always wanted to go BigFoot hunting, you would be out in the wild by yourself or with a friend, you would have a goal in mind instead of just surviving, and you could be contributing to science.
And that, my friends, is why you should try mountain hiking. I'm fortunate enough to live in a mountainous area. You know, pine forests, deep blue lakes, immense mountains and stuff. Pretty whack.
This is literally a few kilometers from where I live
Spoiler:Show
I walk these mountains man (btw, anyone from Romania, add me because I organize these trips once summer kicks in)
Spoiler:Show
This rock is like, 15 kilometers from where I live. Takes 10 minutes with my car.
Spoiler:Show
But that's why we all play Minecraft. To practice and to learn.
I'll be 19 April 28th and I have yet to see any mountains like that and snow.
sigh.
Amazing pics btw.
