I sort of agree, but not to that extent.
I believe that if the art was created with the intentions of making a profit and not out of love/passion, then it's not true art. It's not fair to the Mona Lisa that it makes millions of dollars in visit fees; the painter probably didn't have that in mind.
If you study history of art, you know that the very purpose of art is no more no less than itself. Art is created to exist and have no other use.
Of course, nowadays, people use art to make profit and art is no longer... art. It became a product... Hell, I'm sure that the Renaissance artists are rolling in their grave :) not because today's art is bad art (there's no such thing as bad and good art as long as the artist is putting his soul in it) but because they sell the art (their soul, or rather, no soul at all) for profit.
It only sucks if you say so. Art, or being an artist, isn't about making stuff that looks awesome or cool. Which, most people seem to think nowadays, and every once in a while you can find people criticizing other's works in this part of the forum based on that train of thought. *cough* Kreotis
Art - Creativity is most important, first and foremost. Yeah, it's nice to be able to make things that look awesome, but you're never going to get there if you don't work on it. Besides, personal creative expression is where the real beauty in an artwork lies, not in how cool it is. The real artistic big-wigs will tell you the same thing.
Please keep in mind that "art" in a general form is very different from things like "graphic design" which is most commonly used as a form of advertisement, which means the art has a design scheme specifically tailored to achieve what the image is intended to do. When it comes to freeform and abstract art, there is no such design scheme of any kind involved.
Set yourself free.
p.s.; MS Paint is actually a GREAT place to start.
That is amazing and sad at the same time. Thanks for sharing that video. Not really a art person cause i dont bother learning how to paint. But nontheless that video was awesome.
