Here's my guess: The donation form was written in an unsafe manner, trusting client input and lead to a possibility to DDoS the service.
To take down the main money generating functionality, something like that must be the case.
I am just unhappy about the fact nobody is giving an update about the status, but I am sure they are working with high pressure on this. :D
