if the lordaeron core would be such a succes, then a merge of Dw and ragnaros won't be needed at all when they get that core aswell. it is pretty well known that high rates attract more players. When people have a choice: equal core/fixes but no terribly long leveling process (yes, after a couple of times people can be done with it) surely quite a few will choose rag or dw.

Maybe u are right but then the two realms would need a enormous population boost when the new core is implemented. Right now during peak hours they have hardly 3500 ppl online and the new core can handle 7k players.
Imo the worst scenario would be to have in the end 3 seperated realms with like 4k players on each of them while the new core could handle 7k players.
I think its a little early for anyone to be talking about merging any realms. 1: We don't know how the Lordaeron core will perform with all content released and 2: we don't know if a bunch of players will jump from Lordaeron to DW and Rag after they get updated so they can play on the higher rate servers and 3: we don't know how many new players (from outside of Warmane's community) or returning players those servers will get once they are upgraded.
Also, to the comments about its easy raising the population cap...think about the hardware behind it all. Changing a number in a script is easy enough but if the hardware can't hold that many players then they will need to allocate more. Plus, the core might not be equipped to handle data transfers between that many computers since it's never been done before. I think Kaer even said in a different thread that they're already running something like 12 different computers for Lordaeron and I think that was around when the cap was like 6k or 6.5k. Adding a couple new servers into the mix could cause issues as well.
Just trust that they know what they're doing and will make smart choices. I'm already more than impressed with everything they have accomplished and couldn't ask for more. If they continue to build on it and can safely raise the cap to 8, 9, or even 10k then more power to them. I think we're going to have a lot of fun BGs and some very dangerous and exciting leveling zones and world pvp.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. That 7k is based on no outland and northrend. Once that kicks in, the server will have a lot of mechanisms to handle compromising population
