Four things.
1. Give it time. Time is a great wound-mender.
2. Giving in to failure or pain will mean that you admitted that others can overpower you and decide your life for you. No one is worthy enough to decide the limits of your freedom.
3. Don't ask yourself: why did I fail to live up to their expectations? Instead say: Why do I let people that only cause me pain, bother me and not benefit my life get in my way? Instead of being sad, you should be angry that they took the freedom of making your day a bad one.
4. Your attentions value is only decided by how much you cherish it. So don't give it freely to people who can't appreciate it.

It can go both ways.
It can actually fade away, or just build up and fester.
Physical wounds, sure.
But, time doesn't really help with anything emotional. Well, depending on the person I guess.
Some physical wounds. I wouldn't recommend just waiting a stabbing out.
I know firsthand that trying to let time solve your emotional problems rarely works.

For once I agree with Lawl. Time doesn't "heals" emotional or psychological wounds.
You might leave it behind yourself, but it's still there. It just takes you living a similar situation again for it all to come back.
I hate saying anything personal about myself, especially for things this private about my life...but I find time a bit helpful. For example, Some people get drunk to avoid harsh emotional dilemmas...as for me, I sleep whenever I'm not "feeling well"...
Everyone has their own pick-me-ups. I personally keep myself busy and eventually I just move on. Anything to keep my mind off of whatever my problem is. If I sat in my room and did nothing I would just continue to think about the problems in my life regardless how much time has past.
But, everyone has their own methods of picking themselves up and maybe time does help some people or maybe they just think it helps when they're really just focused on other matters in their life that take up the time they would spend thinking about the problems in their life.
Also, accepting your problems will help quite a bit. Forgive & forget.
That's not healing, it's just "avoiding thinking about it", be it with alcohol, drugs, food, sex or sleep. It can also be called "denial."
Time makes me worse, I sit an linger on things, slowly driving myself to the point I can't take it anymore.
Well I just went **** it, and now I'm sat here, not giving a rats *** anymore. I have a very patient and loyal friend, and even when I'm being a right weirdo he's always trying to be normal and supportive :3
Oh and I just went on a small spending spree, retail therapy works (or at least taking advantage of the Steam sale)

I'm still sitting on ****, hoping it'll go away with time. It's not happening. I'm just not comfortable enough to deal with it.
