Currently we can use a google authentication and the email authentication. Why not have the option to attach our phone numbers directly and send a text for verification as an option as well? I mean yes the google authentication can do just that where you can scan the barcode, however not everyone has the kinds of phones that can run apps like that. This could be an easier option in case someone has taken over your Email making the email authentication kind of worthless while you don't have the kind of phone that can run a Google Authenticator.

If your phone can't run Google authenticator you can use the Google extension just Google chrome authenticator extension.
