Blizz-like exploit? Sounds like something that existed on retail, but wasn't intended. The mogging thing was in the patch notes, which implies that it indeed was intended.

Transmogrification rules have been broadened for several weapon types.

Two-handed axes, maces, and swords can be Transmogrified to each other.

One-handed axes, maces, and swords can be Transmogrified to each other.

Staves and polearms can be transmogrified to each other.

Yes, the 5.2 patch notes do state what Blessia quoted. However, your class must be able to equip the weapon type you're trying to transmogrify into - which is the main whining in the linked thread. If you can't use a two-handed sword, for example, you still shouldn't be able to transmogrify a weapon into one, according to what was changed on those patch notes. Also note that two-handed weapons aren't supposed to transmogrify into just any other - staves and polearms are their own interchangeable category, so no turning two-handed axes into one of them.
