WotLK My hunter can't tame a pet because I already have one but I don't?

I am trying to tame a pet but I cannot. If it is important, this happened after I died. Can I get some help?

I may not have explained this so well, so let me elaborate. I died with a pet under my control. I don't remember if I found my body or used the Spirit Healer but I am pretty sure I found my body. When I came back to life, my pet was gone, so I tried to tame another. The text at the top of the screen said I already have a pet, so I tried to revive it. It said the pet was still alive.

This is my first time playing Hunter, so I am extra lost.
