WotLK Characters missing.

I've downloaded the game again and my characters weren't there anymore.
I didn't delete them on purpose. They just don't exist anymore.
Do they auto-delete after being inactive? or is it some kind of a bug?

I assume you checked in-game after downloading, and not just on the website?
