Opinion: wait for them to announce WotLK classic, read what is warmane private server and finaly read whole Nost story, they are not so "white-knighty" as they tried to look
https://ru.classic.wowhead.com/news/...meeting-321726
Also Nost team was offered to join, but they refused + made core of server public and transfered data to another project that was recorded in admins RMT and so on.
Shortly, they were bad at laws of what is real rivate server and good at being eager
Don't Blizzard have all the rights to their product? what does it matter if the warmane server is private or not?
Blizzard hasn't "closed" warmane because they haven't bothered. It remains to be seen what happens when (or if) wotlk classic is launched. There are some tbc private servers currently working, let's see what blizzard does about them.
Seeing that video with "THE TRUE STORY!" on it was worth some laughing.
@Obnoxious
Yeah, i do not pretend to deliver absolute truth + was hard to find proper archieve about it from mobile.
But iirc Nost guys turned out to be greedy douches who willingly confront Blizzard thinking that huge fanbase will somehow help them against Blizzard.
And you guys seem to be quiet smart and reasonable to not repeat their fate
Nah, I wasn't taking a jab at you, really only at that video.
It's a pretty recent one, came out like three days ago, but it still embellishes and omits plenty of stuff.
I'm legit curious on how stuff like this works. Is there any official statement from Blizzard addressing private servers? Never really thought about this at all. The core-game is theirs, after all.

Is this accurate, for example?

Yes, that is completely correct.
Even though all the emulator code is written by "the community" and is not owned by blizzard, the emulator needs a lot of copyrighted content for it to work (what is called the "world database" and the dbc files), so it could be said that private servers are in breach of the law.
Im also extremely curious about what will happen to Warmane. Even to put aside "blizzard" thing.
Nothing will happen to Warmane.. They are already on United States Trade Representative watchlist since 2014 due to non-compliance. I doubt that's gonna change even if Blizzard releases WoTLK.
