1. Can anyone recommend a game like WoW?

Really wanted to start playing this again but there's simply not enough people, on Lorderon at least. Takes over an hour to get into a dungeon (as Tank) even RHC you need to pay 100g for tank and healer sometimes.

There aren't even people to quest with. The zones are just completely empty. It was a lot better a year or so ago, there were enough people to level in dungeons and quest with.

Not blaming anyone for this, but maybe someone knows another MMO like WoW. Something with some people in it lol.

PS. I would go play retail WoW, but as far as I know, they don't have a LK server. I guess this would put me in the beggars can't be choosers category and that's fair enough.

I just can't seem to find any other open-world MMO's that are challenging and with traditional class roles. I've had even less luck finding any that don't have that anime-inspired over-the-top combat where it looks like a fireworks festival each time you attack.

Seems that all MMO's are going the way of combat where you must summersault 50 times in the air while an orgy of obnoxiously large eye-piercing weapon effects obscure the entire screen.

At lower levels, no wonder. Not many people level and queue RDF's. At higher level we have fewer tanks and heals, but there's 40:1 DPS for each tank/heal.

Yeah, but questing isn't the main point for most people, it's the end-game content. Questing with other person takes extra time. I'd recommend voice chat or something on the side of questing, gives you feeling of not being alone. It sounds fun on paper, but scheduling is always a mess.

New World's rather odd (only followed the news of it). FFXIV offers trial version, where you get to experience a lot of the content these days. I don't know how's Elder Scrolls Online these days, could be something to look into. Guild Wars 2?

You could at least try the free versions of the games, at least the ones that provides F2P option.

EDIT: Don't try to look for WoW copy, you won't find one. Try to look for replacement instead, or diversion.

  3. It was my experience, that when I first started playing on Lorderon, and even up to a year past, you could get into dungeons at any level about 10 times quicker. There were also people out in the world. It actually felt alive. I miss that.

I think the only truth in that is not many people queue because there aren't any people to queue. Turn the page back a year or two ago and every man and his dog was chaining dungeons to level. Every lowbie you inspected was decked out in dungeon gear. Why? Because dungeons gave good gear, good XP and fulfilled the desire to interact with other players.

I guess a lot of players left due to burn-out, or perhaps they found other MMO's to their liking. But there is no sugar-coating the fact that the active player-base has reached an all-time low. I just find it really sad that Lorderon now plays like a singleplayer version of wow up until 80, and even then the community isn't what it used to be.

Yeah, you seem to be right about there being no relevant games like WoW. I've played all the one's you have mentioned, except for New world. I couldn't get into any of them. Guess I'm SOL then.

There was covid boosting the player amounts as well.

  5. It's probably not as bad as I make it out to be. Some hours it's just extremely quiet. So quiet that you won't find a single person at some major cities.

I play mostly at AEST, which I guess is off-peak. Maybe I should become nocturnal :D

  6. Did you ever consider playing on Icecrown server?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaah but when the world started to go back to normal and people realized they need to work for a living....

Kinda gonna scare a majority of players off. (This happened to me and basically everyone in my guild.)
This game isn't the most appropriate if you have a busy schedule.

  8. Give FF14 a try, the game is actually really good. PVE is just as good as in WoW, you can play all classes on 1 character which feel so good, there is no toxicity cus you get ban if you insult people. There is also a lot of fun things to do outside PVE, which WoW complete lack. For example housing and Gold Saucer which is casino with tons of minigames. Just keep in mind this game is complete different then WoW and its first RPG before MMO. The accent is on the story, there is 40 mins long cinematics. The free trail include first expansion and can easy give you for free 200-300 hours of gameplay.

You can never go wrong with cat and bunny girls.

I never really considered it as I really wanted the classic/retail experience. The idea would have had more merit back when I first started playing though.

I think it was my own fault for forgetting just how steep the population drop-offs are for this server. There seems to be only a 4 hour window when you can expect a decent amount of player activity. Outside of that, it can feel very sparse indeed, especially on Horde side. So much so that you can forget about getting into pre-80 dungeons in the off-peak.

Thanks for the write-up Skooby. As much as I like the idea of anti-toxic moderation, I did not find the game to my liking when I tried it a few years back. I really don't like the 1 class does everything model, but that's just my preference. It looked and sounded really nice but I just couldn't get my classic MMO fix from it. I do appreciate the suggestion though.
