It would not be fair knowing that they can buy their items.

If you mean servers - yes, Lordaeron is connected to cross-server for PvP.
Yes, it is unfair, but also challenging. Nothing beats the feeling when you outplay better geared opponents.
It also makes you improve your gameplay and rely less on gear. So where you actually acquire good items, you become a VERY good player and you’re able to benefit most from your upgrades. You won’t necessarily be gladiator level player, but very strong nonetheless.
But if you like casual and relaxing PvP without tryharding and a lot of learning, you better pick Icecrown or Blackrock, and simply your gear.
