Holy Priest healing spells and who I can heal in Wintergrasp
I'm a Holy Priest who only wants to play in Wintergrasp.
But now I'm realizing that's kind of dumb, right? Holy Priest big virtue is healing large numbers of players, but Wintergrasp, being raid-like, means every one of my spells that has "party" in the tooltip has only a 1 in 8 chance of affecting the teammate next to me.
Prayer of Mending, Prayer of Healing, Divine Hymn, Hymn of Hope, Circle of Healing, Holy Nova.... these are all pretty much useless, or at least unreliable, in Wintergrasp, and it's taken me all of this time to figure that out.
So Holy Spec in Wintergrasp is Mass Dispel, Renew, Flash Heal and Shield, and that's all I'm doing, I might as well go Discipline.
You know, I've healed before in Wintergrasp but it was as the tree, and I guess when I was using Wild Growth or Tranquility I just wasn't noticing that I wasn't healing anybody? wtf
I've made adjustments to the tree and removed the offending spells from the actionbars.
It still feels viable just on Empowered Renew and Guardian Spirit alone, but who am I kidding: I'm addicted to Body and Soul.
The original grid addon has extensions that may still be available for download somewhere. I seem to remember the one for showing the best circle of healing target only accounting for players in your party/raid.
Holy is the best spec for everything but arenas: you don't have to worry about your choice. Body and Soul is a cherry on top.
I have no idea how it is here but in retail the limit in wintergrasp is 120v120, which means there can be up to 3 friendly raids at once and the other 2 will not display in your healbot and won't be affected by your raid-wide spells. There is nothing that can be done about the spell part and you will have to heal players outside your raid using direct spells.
Of all the spells you mentioned the only ones that only affect your party are Prayer of Healing (which is not useful compared to Circle of Healing) and Holy Nova which is generally only used to reveal stealthers.
Basically the solution is to try to stay with people in your raid. I liked using that addon in Wintergrasp for an easy way to know if my circle of healing could cover as many people as I thought it would. Other addons probably have similar functionality. But either way it will be a lot easier if you stick with your raid otherwise you'll be fighting game mechanics and addon designs in addition to the other team.
