It wont be instant. Probably an unexpected thing, so have patience till a fix can happen. Keep in mind this is not a bug in game, so i think it wont be easy to fix.
So dont stress. If it gets fixed then its good, if not life goes on so keep playing. Its not like someone did it on purpose, lets be real.

What do you mean by "Rename it then immediately save it" , wouldn't the new name be applied and not reversible if I type anything and enter?

Hope they made any back up with the names right after the gold squish because it will be absolutely crazy if they leave it like this with no reason ...

Nothing fancy just rename it to something else (=freeing the name) and immediately after make a new toon on a different/same account with that name you freed. You can also just delete that toon altogether without even logging it (if its a lvl1/55) and make a new one with the same name instead.

Yesterday after the reset I created a char with a name I wanted, and today this char lost said name and I can't retrieve it, seems someone took it, what happened? I didn't level him because I thought the reset was already over, is it a bug or is it intentional? genuine question.

Reading more this comment section I realised maybe I named my char between the two resets, this was probably the reason I lost the name.

Two of my active characters got their name changet to toons. I have created 1 new character to reserve a name after the reset. Few hours later it became a toon.
I have spent 10 ponts on the website to rename an active character, few hours later the new name was gone (I had it saved with another character before that).
Points are not elegible for a refund but my biggest concern is, once the issues are fixed, will we get an automatic ingame option to rename our character as I'm not looking to spend another 10 points and go to waste?

Don't worry man, it's a very small amount of gold, I lost much more.
Besides, I checked my characters, there are no problems with nicknames. There is no need to worry about it so much.

Its seems no one cares and take responsibility for this big mess up with the names... Its like to delete your transmog that you farmed for months
