No, the death sentence is not necessary.
Why should there be someone that does? Insisting that you or society can say what someone else can or cannot do implies that you believe you are either better than them or you know what is best for them. Both of which are not the case.
Capital punishment has nothing but drawbacks.
1) Capital punishment serves as a "revenge" or an "eye for an eye" on people that society deems "deserving" of it. It is not, and cannot be considered "good" or "righteous". In fact, it is closer to being the opposite.
2) It costs a great deal of tax-payer money to have someone put on death row and eventually executed than it would cost to simply have them rot in prison for the rest of their natural lives. That's money that can be put to good use elsewhere.
3) There's no lesson that capital punishment can teach an individual except for how cruel and unforgiving society can be. Do you think that such punishment will have that person thinking in the after-life "Oh, well maybe I shouldn't have done that" any more than what prison would?
Okay, I take that back. Capital punishment has one (sort-of) pro going for it. That is that people claim that they feel better that the criminal has been "properly punished".
Back to the cons list.
4) It is widely known that many innocent people have met their end at the hands of the so-called "righteous" capital punishment.
I agree with this. Sure we can say that the killer grew up in a harsh environment, or they have a mental illness that "forces" them into killing a person. At that point there is no such thing as rehabilitation. There is no hope for them.
And yes, that does sound brutal. But how are you going to rehabilitate someone that ENJOYS killing or has some type of hatred towards humans that forces them into killing. Are you just going to keep them in a cage? Are you going to surround them with other criminals that have done petty crimes and plan to go home?
If you put them in a cage for the rest of their lives, they still pose a threat to the people that have to watch over them. What's the difference between dying and living in a cage for the rest of your life? The fact that one option allows you to continue to live (if you call that living), and the other option takes your life.
Personally, I believe that murderers should be killed and rapists should be sentenced to prison for life. But hey, if you kill a murderer then that means you're a murderer, right? If you kill someone in self defence are you still considered a murderer? If you kill someone BY ACCIDENT, are you still a murderer? Some people would say yes and some would say no.
Many people say that we're not the ones to judge when a person can live or die. So what do you do if you see a loved one, having their life threatened by some sick ****? You'd most likely defend your loved one and do whatever it takes to keep yourself and that person safe. But is that the only time you're allowed to judge when a person(s) can live or die?
Maybe your loved one was supposed to die and the killer was supposed to live. But non of you would care. You would all defend the people you absolutely love until the bitter end. Now I may be taking what you said out of context Grace. But I'm so tired....Too tired to go to sleep though >:| /flex.
Nvm...I lied...I just turned around and saw my bed and it's just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.........Night everyone c: (Or goodmorning...Whatever floats ya boat :D)
Yeah...no...
The rules that are drawn up by society are not created by one person. It's a collaboration between many people. Certain actions will yield certain consequences. These become the laws that are enforced by the country's government. Enforcing said rules do not make the enforcer "superior" to the person that broke the rule.
No, we don't think we're better than them, we think they should pay the price for their crime. That is not superiority. You really need to ditch this idea...it makes no sense.
Like Negan said, "omg that man killed his wife and daughter, he deserves to die". Yeah that's not us thinking we're better than them. That's us believing in the foundations of society.
On the other hand...lewl k letz be anarchists and let ppl do WHATEVER THE **** THEY WANT, and their only punishment will be their conscience...great policy there...
I consider dying in a cage more humane than letting another kill the condemned.
It's a natural death.
@ Grym
So you're telling me that a group of people are better than any given person? Do you not know anything about peer pressure and the effects it can have on people who desperately want to fit in? That isn't even to mention just how horrible today's society is.
Also, going on about letting people do what they want isn't necessary. A life sentence in prison instead of execution doesn't mean they waltz around in public like nothing ever happened.
Will. You. Please. Learn. To. Read.
I NEVER SAID that a group is better than one single person. I said they enforce the laws that were determined over hundreds of years by tens of thousands of people. People in modern day times KNOW these laws, and they decide whether or not to follow them.
Enforcing laws because people decide to break them does not MAKE THE ENFORCER SUPERIOR. That's their job to society. Where are you finding this opinion, because it's not from what I wrote...
You're contradicting yourself. Also, using tradition as an excuse is just pure silliness.
The last execution by hanging in New Mexico was done at the park in the town i go to school at (I live several miles away), on one of the large Cottonwood trees, that is still there today.
I see you hacked into Marazhu's FB profile...
Lmao that's great. Although the guy in question has a Samoan Islands look to him...
