I still consider gyms a waste of time. The machines there all offer stiff movement. You should just do non-machine workout or just physical labour. I bet gym equipment is all just a part of the Patriot's plan to keep humans physically weak, so that they can't resist the fabric of society.
Nah, they're not, the people that think they are seem to be people who are too lazy to go therefore they just make excuses or people who can't/ are not interested in going.
If you went to the gym on a weekly basis, you'd think differently, but they're not for everyone. If you're not willing to use it to its full potential and actually sit around instead of using the equipment, yes it's pointless.
Gym serves as a motivation most of the time. It's all psychological. Having subscribed to a gym, you feel more motivated to actually do some extra sport.
Having subscribed to a gym, most people feel that they MUST go.

yea its more like a duty.

I disagree with this. I don't have a membership, I should really get one instead of paying each session but I love going to the gym and it's the best exercise you can do. In the gym I go to there are mats out front so people do weights, and running and then they use the mats for push ups and sit ups.
Yes some feel motivated but it's not just that.
It's so obvious you don't go. It's like me saying I hate avocados. I've never had an avocado.
I used to go to gym when I first started boxing some 3 years ago, to supplement and grow in strength. The coach advised us to do so and taught us methods to gain strength but not bulk up. Different style of exercises than the body builders really. Yes, I saw gym as a "job" I had to do to get better at boxing. I never truly liked it. I brought membership because it costs less that paying each time I visited, and because I went to the gym 5 days a week. Paying each visit was some 10 times as expensive as a 1 month membership. Not sure about UK master rich race, but in Romania we're poor. Sue me.
Nowadays I don't go to gym. Riding my bike and other self-exercises (push ups, pull ups, squats you name it) and the fact that I do boxing is more than enough sport for anyone.
If you'd study some really basic psychology you'd understand my comment.
edit: let me add the fact that gym is not the best exercise you can do, but at this point it's just me trying to change your already made up mind. Why do you think swimming is the best sport one can do? give me a fair answer.

Gym machines concentrate on a few certain muscles at a time.
Body exercise is far more natural, concentrating on a higher number of muscles. Run to simulate chasing prey, do body exercise to simulate struggling with it.
I don't want to sound crazy but I actually think that the only reason why the majority of governments banned weed but allowed alcohol and commercial cigars is because they close the mind while weed opens it. They don't want people with an open mind and a critical attitude. They want obedient slaves that can follow orders.
edit, I don't consume weed, but i'm just wondering.
It's actually just because tobacco and alcohol are ancient, and more popular and less feared than weed. If alcohol and tobacco were banned, no government could suffer the uproar. Finland has proven that banning alcohol just makes things more troublesome.
If tobacco and alcohol were new things, they'd never be legalized.
I study psychology, I understand your comment, I just think you're wrong. Simple as that
Can you please explain to me why it is wrong to correct someone after they tell you that you should study something you are already studying?
You are taking this out of context. Are you trying to be a 'third wheel' as some people put it? Because I suggest you read all comments before picking something and trying to make **** or whatever about it.
Hellz, there is no right and wrong, no good and evil in the Universe. There are just opinions and points of view.
I say that the majority of people who subscribe at a gym go on a regular basis partly because they want, partly because the society demands it, partly because they want to feel better about themselves, partly because the feel like they MUST go. There are mostly psychological and social factors why people continue to go at the gym even if the body does not need it, rather than switching to a more natural sport. On contrary to the popular belief, the body does not need more exercise than what a man naturally has to do. Related to this but you probably already know, the body does not need more food than what the body naturally demands. More food =/= more energy.
There must always be balance (I know it sounds cliche)
I also say that any sport that involves natural movement is better for increasing strength, mobility, control and overall improving health than going to the gym.

What makes you think you can categorize people, group them up and state why choose to do something? Everyone has their own free will, they have the ability to make their own choices and if they go to the gym, they have their reasons. Unless you have asked each individual why they go, you have no right to assume that's it's mostly psychological. With other things too, you cannot think you know people's reasons behind their actions, you're no mind reader.
Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong but you will never know someone's reasoning unless you ask them which I'm pretty sure you haven't.
There's a difference between thinking and knowing. Why am I the only person in here who can't have a view of their own?
I think you're wrong, isn't the same as saying you are wrong, I'm just stating my opinion, we all have one. Do not make the mistake in thinking you are the only one that has an opinion and that your view is the only one that matters.

This is actually my own mistake. I didn't see the "think" in "I just think you're wrong". I just read it like "You're just wrong" or something like that.
As for the other thing, it's just ridiculous. I basically can't say "People like ice-cream" because there might be that one guy somewhere, sometime, maybe in the past or future, that didn't even heard about ice-cream or just hates it. Yes, most people go to the gym for the same reasons.
