  2. My English assignment on Into the Wild. "Using details from the selection describe how Chris felt about money and comment on the style and language of the text."

Believe it or not, this will actually get you a high B - mid/high A in my junior (in high school) English class.

    Spoiler: Show
Had a 250 word limit, so I couldn't be more specific on the points I really wanted to and ended up having to be far too general for my liking, but oh well.
The text on pg. 115 was written to show the disparity between Chris’ parents’ beliefs and experience with money and Chris’ radically different perception of wealth. The overall tone seems ironic; Billie is apathetic about spending her hard-earned wealth while Chris is portrayed as being embarrassed by it. The author describes the “greatest paradox” (Krakauer 115) as Chris’ view on money-Billie emphasized that she “worked very, very hard” for the wealth, which is why she felt entitled to spent it. The author’s use of phrases like “struggling to rise above” to illustrate the work put in to earn Chris’ parents’ wealth and “didn’t flaunt their modest wealth” to endear the reader to the plight and subsequent triumph of the early years of Chris’ parents paints a brilliant background with which to juxtapose Chris’ pseudo-communistic views on the subject of money.
Chris did not see his parents’ wealth the same way whatsoever. Described as being “the teenage Tolstoyan”, he viewed wealth as “shameful, corrupting, and inherently evil”. Chris almost hated wealth, it seemed—not only is there situational irony in that he was brought up in wealth and ended up despising it, but there is also situational irony in that he was a born capitalist with “an uncanny knack for making a buck”. Overall, Chris’ dislike of wealth compared to his parents’ belief that it is well-deserved creates a paradoxical piece of text with large amounts of irony and contradiction that put readers at a quandary of who to sympathize with.

Also, english class is just seeing how well you can BS something in an elegant way. :|

I said pseudo-communistic. He has some similar principles but I think he'd probably find communists evil in some way too.

That's what bothers you about that picture?

Boardwalk Empire was great last night, lot of new plot lines opened up.

Capone's brothers got introduced and they're in Cicero so now we'll start to see his rise to power.

    Also no Margaret in sight.

I'm very hyped about the media convention this weekend.

Before I thought it'd just be a pile of horrifying finnish weeaboos. Well, maybe it will be, but I think I can still have fun with friends, and if I'm lucky, form new bonds.

The best part is probably eating in a chinese restaurant and Gamestop shenanigans. I wonder what I'll do this time. I don't want to lie so I can't ask for Atelier Totori. Maybe I'll ask if the Vita version has a physical form on this plane of existence.

Yeah. I'll ask the neckbeard counter guy if they have any Underage Panty Quest XX copies for Vita.

Might even be serious and check if they have any classic PS2 games worth picking up.

My bad, I meant sub-forum. It's basically a Spam Section of ours but people are not afraid to come with crazy theories and people actually discuss them (unlike other forums I've seen in which pretty much no one agrees with something a little over the top).
