1. I don't think it's right for a man to brutally beat her if she, say, just smacks him - how on Earth do you justify needing to absolutely wreck a woman to get her to stop if she only smacked you? - but if she made it abundantly clear she was out for blood...I'm much less willing to be on her side.

That being said, there are limits. I've rarely heard of people having to go to that kind of extreme.

  2. Yes, you can restrain her or defend yourself calmly... But hospitalizing with 19 broken bones, teeth, dislodged liver and etc. isn't right, even if it was a man that attacked him.
I will continue to fight someone as long as they're getting up and attacking me. If you attack someone while they're down, that becomes assault on your end. But, if I feel as if my life or another persons life is in danger. I will take the **** storm to a whole new level.

But what Jon Koppenhaver did was not acceptable. And that whole situation is completely different than what I'm talking about.

  3. This entire "oh he beat a woman" argument is incredibly stupid. The gender of a person doesn't matter when someone else beats someone into the hospital. I'm willing to bet that half the people wouldn't care if he was gay and beat his boyfriend, because 2 guys beating each other seems socially accepted for w.e reason. The guy beat another person in an incredibly brutal way and I honestly hope that he's going to sit for a very long time in jail for that.

  4. I agree what he did wasn't right.

But let's say she attacked him. I would truly stand behind him if he beat the **** out of her in self defense.

Women don't get a free pass. If a random woman decided to attack me, I would beat the **** out of her until she fell to the ground. I would treat her as if she was a man and do whatever it would take for her to stop attacking me or endangering my life.
No but the point is, if the MMR fighter had been the one attacked, he had plenty of soft techniques to restrain without causing harm to the other person, allowing for police to be called and them to be held without any further fighting.

Someone attacks you, you don't hit back out in "self defense" you subdue them, whether it be from a few nerve strikes or lock.

Self defense means you do whatever the hell it takes to keep yourself safe. If that means pulling out a gun and shooting your attacker. Do it.

Now if a tiny person decided to attack me. I'm obviously not going to go all out and just obliterate them. But if I feel as if my life is in danger. I will do whatever it takes to stay alive or protect someone and if that means beating a woman to death, whatever. And if I was an MMA fighter, I would still do whatever it takes.

That doesn't necessarily mean I would go out and snap the woman's neck because she tried to slap me once. And I do think this guy went WAAAAAYYYY overboard and I do think he should be arrested.

I also believe that if anyone breaks into your house. You should be allowed to kill them. I'm glad I live in a state that allows me to blast someone to death if they break into my house.

DO NOT follow this advice or you will go to jail.

You legally cannot use more force than your attacker.

    *snorts*

Also, Link, in Florida you can do exactly that. You can kill an attacker if you feel mortally threatened by Florida law (at least, at a younger age -- I'd have to check the specifics of the law). I should know, my cousin was murdered because a kid thought he was going to get 'mortally wounded' in a school fight.

You cannot apply excessive force, but if you feel your life is threatened then you can apply force to threaten the others life (That's not Florida law, that's basic self defense law. Some states are more lenient than others, but the law states you can only use the bare minimum to get yourself out of harm, which can be lethal at times). Then it's up to the court to decide whether or not you used excessive force. But if someone is punching you, you cannot "do whatever the hell" and shoot someone. You cannot pull out a gun and shoot someone without need to do so in any state, you will get arrested.

Thin Ice, but what the hell

I don't mean to step any toes here, just teasin' a little.

But can I just point out.. That two Americans, discussing when violence is condoned. When hitting someone is justified.. What is self defense.. When you can shoot someone...

You guys must have just confirmed half a dozen stereotypes.

On your topic: The whole 'When is violence condoned' discussion disgusts me. It's part of the reason people are still so eager to resort to violence in the first place.

Something pointless to share (which will hopefully kindle a different topic): Yesterday, I had a brief moment of sadness when I realized that; Our generation is the last one who will have grown up with the Harry Potter series. As the books grew with them.
I hope many new book-series will come that can grow along with kids nowadays.

I was maybe 7 when I read my first Harry Potter.. And about 15 when I read the last one. Most memorable books of my childhood without question.

Look up "stand your ground" cases. It has basically been "someone punches and kicks me so I kill them." Or even worse in the case of my cousin, "I think someone will punch and kick me so I killed them." Let off completely, charges dismissed.

My edit never went through I guess.

I was going to post that self defense will turn into an assault if you attack someone while they're on the ground. In Florida at least. So yes, shooting someone right away in self defense could get you ****ed.

But if death or serious bodily injury is imminent. Blast away.
