1. I find there's something wonderful about the ability to communicate in different idioms. It opens so many doors. I couldn't imagine how different my life would have been had I not learned English. It's just weird to think about it.

However, I guess there isn't much point for someone who's already on the center of world to waste time learning other languages. Most things are already available to you by default, after all.

I've heard Americans don't even get taught much about other countries' histories other than their own in their history classes.
That and also, they're one of the last countries in the world that STILL doesn't use the metric system.

This puts kids in America at a disadvantage, since most jobs like a car technician deal with metric tools, and when they grow up and don't know how to use the metric system, they're going to fail their job.

To convert America to the metric system it costs money, and what I mean is that companies will have to change their boxes, shipping labels, etc., and it costs money.

And when you live in a country that's overrun with for-profit companies that are influencing the government to control America their way, they're not going to do it, and they only care about themselves, since if they cared about kids' future, we would have been metric a LONG time ago. But nooo. And I don't know WHY.

  2. America has no flag, its a continent. i think you mean the United States flag
No, we own the entire continent, both of them; we may as well own your country as well.

  3. However, I guess there isn't much point for someone who's already on the center of world to waste time learning other languages. Most things are already available to you by default, after all.

Pretty much every high school student is required to take at least 2 years minimum in a foreign language (3+ is recommended for colleges). How much you actually learn depends on the school, the teachers, and your personal dedication. I'm able to communicate in French pretty decently, and my school even foreign-exchange trips to France for a few weeks every year.

About the history, that's more or less true. They offer "World History", which is honestly the basics (Ancient Civilizations and basically the history of Western Europe). AP European History is offered though, which is pretty indepth from what I've heard.

That and also, they're one of the last countries in the world that STILL doesn't use the metric system.
Freedom cannot be measured by your silly metric system /s
But srs knowing how to convert to metric is pretty much something that everyone is taught in school.

Spot on with how there isn't much point to learning other languages except Spanish. In High School you are required, though, to attend classes for 2 different languages. After that I would imagine most people forget it because it just isn't needed. Spanish is not really required here, but there is a definite benefit.

World History has a hint of bias in Mid/High School just like most other countries, but in College(University) you learn more. The most bias I've learned is concerning WW2, not in what role those who were in the Allied Forces played, but how outside forces contributed a lot more than what is shared. Without the US, a lot of the one's who have contributed to this discussion would of not been able to, but without the Soviets and the losses they took we all most likely wouldn't of had this opportunity.

I've had no issues adapting to this. I can understand from a business standpoint, if you are international it could be a pain, but you are being dramatic about it.

    Therefore Kemii>Me. I knew it!

You think we pay 45k? We pay 9k.
Or if you started university prior to 2012, 3k.
Between me and my ex we were getting 14K in grants and scholarships per year not including out loans.

Much better system than having to panic, keep up your GPA, have to work and living off ramen.
I got PAID to go to college.

I've heard Americans don't even get taught much about other countries' histories other than their own in their history classes.
Unfortunately true. The American education system is disgusting. Not only are kids kept ignorant; they're also brainwashed with bull**** political agendas.
Not always true. My highschool required 2 foreign language credits to graduate. It's a very small school, and I only had the options of Spanish, French and German. But still. Foreign language is also a required course for a lot of fields when it comes to college/university as well.

That being said, it's not "unfortunate" or "disgusting" that foreign languages aren't required. English is becoming the "global" or "universal" language because of the United States' position in the world's politics and economy. It is because we are FORTUNATE, not because we are unfortunate.
In addition, like someone explained before in this thread, the United States isn't like Europe where you travel a few hundred kilometers and BAM, you're in a different country with an entirely different language. Why would I need to learn a foreign language when my own language is largely the most common language in the world and there are no nearby foreign countries that speak a different language than my own?

Point being, the US is not Europe, and those who expect the US to be like Europe (because apparently Europe is better or something?) are truly those who I would call "unfortunate".

As for brainwashing people with bull**** political agendas, welcome to the Human race? I pity you if you think the US is alone in that.

That and also, they're one of the last countries in the world that STILL doesn't use the metric system.
To this day, I still don't understand this. Why do you care? "OMG! They don't use OUR system! OUR system is sooooo much better! They must use it or they are <insert insult here>!" That's probably the biggest issue I have with Europeans, and I know many other Americans feel similarly. A lot of Europeans are so quick to try and label us as acting as though we are superior when we really couldn't give a ****, or that the Europeans think they are superior in some way and trying to impress that upon us when, again, we really couldn't give a ****. My thoughts on it are: "K. That's wonderful. Now go away."

I'm fairly certain I know what the source of the hate from Europeans is though. It's not envy like a lot of people seem to believe. It's more that the Europeans are so trained to hate each other after thousands of years of trying to conquer and kill each other off, that they feel like they need to do it to the "new" country that's involved in their politics and economy.

This puts kids in America at a disadvantage, since most jobs like a car technician deal with metric tools, and when they grow up and don't know how to use the metric system, they're going to fail their job.
No lol? Are you saying that learning the metric system or knowing how to use both the metric and imperial systems is difficult? Because it's not.

I don't know what world you live in where businesses don't try to make money, but please let us all know.
