I would argue that talking about wanting to commit suicide is indicative of serious problems, regardless of the likelihood of that person actually committing suicide in the near future. Sure, people who talk about suicide are looking for attention, but there is a significant chance that they are looking for attention because they need help and don't know how to get it. This kind of attitude that it's not serious to talk about killing oneself is absurd.

Sure, people who talk about suicide are looking for attention, but there is a significant chance that they are looking for attention because they need help and don't know how to get it. This kind of attitude that it's not serious to talk about killing oneself is absurd.

Most of them turn to either "failed" attempts or self harm as the main form of crying for help, or confiding in a trusted friend.

Not posting on a public forum where they are a known troll.

This is coming from someone with a decade of depression and a few actual suicide attempts behind them.
