I just wanted to know which class is the strongest in PvE
Cata:
Fire Mage
Ret Paladin
Arms Warrior
Arcane Mage
Enhc Shaman
Unholy DK
Hunter
Warlock
Rogue
Frost DK
Roughly in that order, played with BIS gear on a fight like Ultraxion.
MOP:
Frost DK
BM Hunter
Arcane Mage
Fury Warrior
Warlock
Feral Druid
Rogue
Ret Pala
Shadow Priest
Boomkin
Elemental Shaman
From what I remember raiding, Might have changed slightly as bugs have been fixed. Damage based off Gara'jal in MSV (currently target dummy fight).

Kemii, I'm just here to correct you, rogue* and the fight you're talking about is Gara'jal in MSV.
Also Fury Warrior is currently at the top of the DPS because of bugged T15, each one of his hits proc the berserk so they have two Raging Blows each 3 seconds.

Aww thanks :), my brain was on sleep mode when I wrote that out.
What about Wotlk ?
Don't play wrath, dont got a clue sorry.
WotLK:
Top 3:
Marksmanship Hunter
Retribution Paladin
Frostfire Mage
Not far behind:
Demonology Warlock
Hybrid Warlock
Fury Warrior
Balance Druid
Shadow Priest
These are usually the classes that dominate for top 5 on damage done. However, pretty much any class works, except for Assassination Rogues and Enhancement Shamans.
Cata:
For cata, rogues usually end up first or second on the list. Its rare to see a ret pala beat a good rogue anymore.
Fire mages depends on the ignite and if they use mastery trinkets. If they use Will and Cunning or similar, I'd say rogues still beat them.
On fights like ultraxion Hunters, Unholy, Warlock and Shamans are especially bad since pets and totems disappear when you come back to the realm. Lovely bugs :D
But imo its hard to say. Straight up solo target sustained dps, rogues are really good. Fire mages are good, especially with the right mastery procs :)
Ret palas are up there.
But remember most fights consist of more then one target thus making cleave/multidotting very useful :)
So classes like Warlock/Sprist/ele shaman, can really come to play.
Check out this article:

Gives a pretty solid rundown at overall which classes are pulling the most dps in raids (hint: it's rogue). I was wondering the same thing you are and found this article to be accurate and helpful.
You are forgetting to take into account the differences between warmane and retail. Classes can be broken and the such :)
That couldn't be more off.
That's the analysis made 5 years ago based on retail's WotLK standings.
On Warmane the numbers are completely different. Keep in mind that Assassination Rogues and Enhancement Shamans are the most bugged class there is on WotLK, and they aren't above any of the other DPS classes.
Along with that, it's true that 15k DPS was considered godlike on retail, but keep in mind that on Warmane you can reach 20k+ with almost any class which I wrote 3 posts above. So much for comparison.
In some rare fights maybe but in most, mages are in front of rets. Frost DKs are in front of rets.
Rets took a really hard hit ever since the Seal of Corruption fix. The melee scene is a lot more balanced now, with usually either Fury Warriors or FDK's coming out on top. TTW mages seem to be pulling out well ahead of FFB mages (as they should be, although most of Warmane has yet to catch on) ever since TTW got somewhat fixed, although sadly mages still remain significantly gimped because their 2p t10 hasn't been working for more than a month now. Hunters and mages definitely dominate inside ICC atm.
